Leadership Development Program

Since 1998, the Academy's Leadership Development Program has helped identify and develop future leaders of state, subspecialty and specialized interest societies. During the one-year program, class participants learn about leadership, advocacy and association governance. Each class meets in person four times, twice in conjunction with the Academy annual meeting. Participants conclude their time in the program by completing a project in one of 10 key areas.

Dr. Claudia Maria Prospero Ponce

Claudia Maria Prospero Ponce, MD was recognized at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s 2024 Annual Meeting in Orlando for her selection to the Academy’s Leadership Development Program XXV, Class of 2024. Claudia Maria Prospero Ponce, MD nominated by the AAOOP was among a select group of twenty participants chosen from among a large group that was nominated by state, subspecialty and specialized interest societies. Dr. Ponce’s Leadership Development project was dedicated to creation of the information of the brochures for the patients regarding key ophthalmic conditions managed by oncologists and pathologists.
